I do question the importance of strictly adhering to source material when doing an adaptation. In theory, I think you should just focus on telling a good story. I mean, I genuinely like the film I Robot, and consider it a worthwhile exploration of Asimov’s ideas.

If it were up to me, I’d say that Pike receiving future knowledge of his horrific injury created a new timeline, free to evolve in its own way — just like the parallel Kelvin timeline. There’s no reason that exact scenario should repeat itself this time round (last season’s time traveling Admiral Pike notwithstanding).
