Thank you for this. We can acknowledge the value in the thought even if the author isn’t “fat enough” to call herself fat by whatever messed up rubric we’re using, and attacking that statement like it’s the whole of the article throws out the true point. As a side note, I wish I had your confidence - it’s tough to

I agree with you. When I read this article I (as a fat person) felt the same way you did. And then to read comment after comment of people getting upset over whether the author had the ‘right’ to call herself fat, all the other negative comments, well, it almost totally eliminated whatever good feeling this article

I’m pretty sure it’s because of Reconstruction - Texas law was changed to elect judges in 1876. Since the governor was a democrat at the time that suggests this was done to further disenfranchise black voters, but that’s purely speculation - I couldn’t find a concrete answer in a few minutes’ research.

Most judicial positions require you to be licensed to practice law, or a certain number of years served as a lawyer or judge. For instance, you cannot serve as a judge in an appellate court in Texas if you are not licensed to practice law in Texas.

Personally, being able to say “My life for Aiur!” would be enough. Props for the username!
