The Fifth Element has a 72% on RottenTomatoes and who doesn’t love The Fifth Element. The Fifth Element isn’t going to win any grand cinematic awards, but it’s a fun, beautiful movie that I’ll sit down and watch anytime I come across it.

I still enjoy Tron Legacy for this reason.

My hopes were lowered a bit when I found out the title wouldn’t reference Laureline, who frankly is the heart and brains of the duo in the comics. And the fact that Valerian looks like a member of a boy band.

I feel the same, this is going to be a fun trip to the Imax theater where I can shut my brain down for 2 hours and just enjoy the ride.

I’m fine with watching something more for the eye-candy and world building. Sucks that the story and characters aren’t there, but knowing what the movie is ahead of time should allow me to appreciate the movie for what it is.

The overall design is similar, but the Buran was in many ways more advanced than the US shuttles. It could fly unmanned, which was something US shuttles could not do.

Yes. Sorta. Much of the “basic” design specs were publicly available, but from what I recall, some of the more detailed information was *stolen*. Perhaps someone can expand on this.

It’s not Russia’s security that is responsible, is it, if the shuttle’s in Kazakhstan? Or do they also provide security as part of their leasing agreement?

It always astonishes me, for a supposed big, bad police state, how careless the Russians are about security. Could you imagine a handful of German thrill seekers hiking into Area 51 and mugging over their old stuff?

The dialogue on the page before that one makes it seem like this is the result of the Hand tampering with his corpse over in Uncanny Avengers.

So the secret empire has a new secret weapon. What we need are some secret rebels to steal some secret plans to the secret weapon and launch a secret attack to exploit its secret weakness. Secretly.

Two theories, bearing in mind that I do not know much more of the mythos than is explained here.
