If you can’t grasp the fundamental difference between “some dude on the internet” and “the actual creator of the characters” I don’t know what to say.

Because the creator has a bigger right to be angry about the fact that their work has been significantly changed in the process of adaptation? I very much believe in changing things in adaptations to accommodate the new medium, but I’d be irked about something they changed from my work, even if 99% of it was right.
I don’t think it’s a binary thing. Yeah, some fans are over the top in complaining that changes are made when going from book to film, and it is sometimes the case that the changes are thoughful or necessary or even an improvement but fans with blinders can’t see that.
Qualitatively different when you cast a black character as a white guy, I think.
As does Duncan MacLeod, although fortunately there can be only one name in the credits.
It’s appalling to see a studio completely miss the heart of the property, but that’s studio execs for you. It will be interesting to see if the Disneycorp takeover will amount to the same focus on quality that we see in the Marvel properties, or if it will be a same blunder as the LucasFilms properties (note- not…
How the hell do you direct and co-write a movie about Mutants, who represent oppressed minorities, and not give a shit about talking about racial politics?
Also, throwing this out there; there are rich black families all around the world. “I can’t have this character be black because they’re not poor” is a really shitty take on this.
“Yet another example of Hollywood white-washing. There’s just no excuse.” (Boone discussed the controversy in an io9 interview published Tuesday.)
Personally Nextwave has lost its luster for me ever since it came out Warren Ellis was a scumbag who coerced women into having sex with him while claiming to mentor them and then metaphorically dropping them like a sack of potatoes.
It’s part of a thread that aims to present the idea that being a transperson is really an outlet for other unresolved problems like abuse or mental health and that this is a common problem that ends with the claim that pushing this, that it’s “easier” to transition and live as a transwoman than as a gay man when gay…
They’ve also said they’re “transwoman in presentation. male by birth” and “I don’t identify as a woman. I identify with women.”
To say this view is idiosyncratic in the trans community is really underselling it. It’s like when white people quote Candace Owens to prove they’re not racist.
I think the problem is that comparing the very real issue of doctors throwing medication at depression without any real plan is not at all comparable to how HRT is treated. The barriers to getting hormones for trans people are often enormous and doubly so for young trans people, often with fatal consequences as people…
This is true, but it is also true that many people who could be helped by anti-depressants refuse to take them because of the societal stigma against mental health problems which makes them feel they are weak and if they can’t just “buck up” and be stronger then they shouldn’t need meds. Pushing that line of thought…
In the abstract, over prescription is a serious problem that warrants continuous discussion. It’s a non sequitur to a discussion of trans people, though, and that’s precisely the kind of insidious rhetorical strategy that she’s using. She analogizes getting a prescription for antidepressants to the much more fraught…
The problem here though is equating the issue of a lack of funding for therapy when it comes to mental health to transgender transition. As I’ve put in my main post this user who claims to want to have a nuanced take has clearly been well indoctrinated into Gender Critical cultery (and it is a cult from reports of…
Oh, they’re starting to go after bi people again now. It’s great
Here’s that first user now claiming to want nuance a couple days ago:

“I pray for him”. Suddenly, I’m on Gibson’s side because pretty much no one who has ever said that hasn’t been a liar.
