If you're using your computer as a phone-forwarding device then it kinda IS in use. I use my primary desktop as a VPN endpoint when I'm away from home and as a bit of a file-server for my friends and I so it tends to stay on 24/7. As long as the electrical bills aren't outrageous it's not a huge issue for me.
