Exactly! English has three third person singular pronouns he, she, and it. Pick the one that fits. When I don't know the gender of a child I use 'it' to ask the parent. And to avoid pissing off that new parent friend of mine I explain using the second sentence of this post.

The ending was open because the anime was based on parts 1-4 out of the 8 parts of the game. I've played 1-7 and the first half (or so) of 8 and I like it quite a bit. The entire game is being translated by a group called The Witch Hunt (witch-hunt.com).
