My S60R has a similar pocket on the front edge of the front seat-bottoms. I’ve never used it for anything, but I was shocked when I discovered it. It took me almost a year of owning the car to realize it was there.

Rev matching could use some more explanation. I get the concept of wheel speed vs. engine/crank speed, but knowing just what speed the wheels are turning and what revs the engine is turning can be mystifying. Is it just something you just have to feel out with each particular vehicle?
