For real. The lower slower half, but I am from north of the great circle originally

I actually liked Cinderella more and more as they went on. Tom Keifer's solo record is pretty damn good and nothing like the band's work. More blues and Stones/Clapton, less bad imitation of Aerosmith as they went on. Shame he has so many issues with his throat. Decent Nazareth-like screech.

So, they told him to carry on, wayward son?

Well, I'm in Delaware. What's the prize?

I was hoping that upon reading this article, that "pretzel buns" was the name the actress who plays the Wendy's girl gave her boobs and there was some crazy after party video from mid aughts out there with her at Boyz II Men show.

If Hootie & The Blowfish had written more songs like "Drowning" and less like "I Only Wanna Be With You", their fate might have been different. Rucker has a distinct expressive voice, and there is always a market for rootsy, southern styled rock. But other than that song, the album was a lot of mid tempo fluff.

Except that the sound of VH was familiar to me by then, not groundbreaking or something different.

"And let's get one thing clear: You do not lump Guns-N-Roses in with Ratt
and those other shitty bands. Guns-N-Roses is the band that made it
obvious how bad all those other bands sucked."

Actually it was Motley Crue's "Bastard" from 'Shout At The Devil', which I had purchased unbeknownst to them with my allowance money.

Only because Freddie Mercury is dead.

And here I thought no one at the AV Club would know of King's X.

"And there was plenty of insanely dumb pop music in the nineties."

I am mixed on whether the music was refreshing. I certainly thought Badmotorfinger was a kick in the ass of old school Sabbath that had been missing in metal bands that got mainstream attention, although Metallica would release the black album that year too, and love it or hate it, it was more in line with 70's metal

Yeah, the discussion of macho here confounds me. I'm old enough to remember asking my parents about a Motley Crue or Quiet Riot lyric in 1983, and having the albums taken away from me. The machismo to the point of being cartoonish, as well as the casual misogyny of the era were lost on me as a kid.

I don't know that they are progressive in the sense that Rush, Yes, Dream Theater, etc are. They don't do crazy suites and whatnot.

I didn't even bother with Weezer until the green album, which came out after college for me…..after my first real job….after my engagement….hell, after my wedding…..so……

Thayil. They both come off as pretentious, but Corgan is clueless and completely lacking self awareness of how annoying he is, where as Thayil is cocky, because, he's a great guitar player and knows it, so his attitude is "fuck you".

More easily identifiable as metal. Less prog and weird doom, more speed and anger. Maybe an influence, but I hear a modern take on classic metal, mixed with anger and obvious politics that Soundgarden either veiled or didn't have (especially the politics).

Since I cant seem to edit my comment, my last sentence was going to be that saying "Black Hole Sun" is your favorite instantly tells me that maybe you didn't get the point of the song and video. Or the band.

The Bends is the only Radiohead album I give a damn about, mostly because its the only one I consider listenable. "Just", "High and Dry", and "Fake Plastic Trees" still hold up. Damn, has it been 20 years already?
