I don’t object so much as I eye roll dramatically. I don’t think that the brutal lashing of a woman is context for this story and I think it’s a disingenuous straw man to pretend it is.

I’m sure that girl is pumped that some keyboard warriors got her ad pulled. It’s probably great for her modeling career!

They tried to be acrobats as a hobby, but then everyone got mad (;_;)

the result of this kind of untethered manufactured outrage will be that advertisers will be hesitant to use models of color at all. why bother if someone on the internet will find something to raise hell about or interpret some aspect of your ad as ‘racist’ no matter what? you want a photo of an older child cheekily

UGH. Honestly, if anything take issue with the fact that that the tag line is that girls can do anything and that in this picture the two in the middle aren’t doing much of anything.

To me, the implication of that photo is the black girl saying “Look at these jackasses, jumping around or posing in an stance that should only ever appear an ephebophile’s wet dream. I’m just going to stand here and radiate badassery with a cocked hip and a flat stare”.

She cannot be serious:

Thank you for pointing this out. I was disappointed that Jezebel didn’t mention that ad in their article. I shouldn’t be surprised by that, though.

Is it racism, or is it heightism? Us shorties must always be on guard around the subjugating talls.

whatever

Probably could file this one under “choosing your battles”

Not pictured: the Gap Kids ad from just a few years ago wherein a black model was using a white model as an armrest in almost the exact same pose.

No one will see this because I’m in the grays, but can we PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW KYLIE NOW LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE BLAC CHYNA????

Now if we could just get them to do the same for reproductive/abortion rights...

Wow. That sure is a ring?

Someone who will hit back ten times harder after he is attacked is not exactly thick-skinned.

I once read that Birmingham could have been the biggest city in the new south, bigger than Atlanta, but all civil rights unrest (and bombings) scared businesses away. Southern leaders, now is your chance to learn lessons from history and find success in accepting people that are different. Except you, Mississippi,

New bumper sticker for all the southern legislatures:
WE DON’T NEGOTIATE WITH THEOCRATS

It’s sad that this is what it has to come to, but... this is what it has to come to. It will mostly screw over people who probably don’t have very strong feelings about the bill one way or the other, but you need to make the literal and figurative cost of bigotry high to shake people out of that complacency.

The sad part is that this is the only way this kind of legislature will be defeated. Because for the right wing it goes like this....
