Oh yeah, but just be aware that I was a big indoctrination theory guy - people can find hidden meanings (sometimes serious hidden meanings) in just about anything, especially if they’re trying to justify the time and effort they’ve sunken into something that turns out to be mostly unworthy.
Very kind of Matt to include my sleep-deprived ravings here. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was my favourite game this year by far but Mass Effect Andromeda is such a wonderful clusterfuck that it’s much more fun to talk about. Any game that lets you create a ridiculous main character that helps you rise above the…
That’s the beauty of the system here, I believe; we can disagree with the editorial staff and have our own opinions be not only a legitimate part of the conversation, but fed back in for publishing when it counts.
All it took to get a positive word about Horizon Zero Dawn around here was for the commenters to write it. Huzzah! I loved that game, currently replaying it.
Everyone talking about Nier talked about all the different storylines and as an outsider who is intrigued by the game, what’s up with the storylines? Do you beat A and go straight into B then C, etc? Is it like star Fox where if you take a different path you get a different story? Do they relate to a decision you make…
Staggering Stew Bum confirms my suspicion that ME: Andromeda is the sly-est gaming satire since John Romero spawned Daikatana upon an unsuspecting world of gamers, who quickly made Romero THEIR bitch.
It seriously does my heart good to see all the folks who’ve been around since Gameological’s beginning still contributing such thoughtful conversations. Thanksgiving, everybody!
I’m in kind of the same boat on Nier. I even included it in my Top Ten for the year, since it was genuinely different and the gameplay genre shifts alone are something I’ve barely ever seen before (especially in this elegant a presentation). Still, I didn’t play it past the ‘B’ storylilne, so I guess I was about 2/5…
Hooray! The Keyboard Geniuses ‘Year In Review’ is always one of my favorite features. Thanks for keeping it going, even with all of the changes to the AV Club in 2017. And thanks, of course, for all of the extraordinary work y’all do writing these articles for us to consume :)
That would be because of two things.
Yes, he is.
Literally anyone could have written that false information. Your sources are suspect.
Honestly, it feels like Bethesda called this game Prey so as to defend their intellectual property rights. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the 2006 game of the same name.
Thank you!!! Prey is so so so so so so so good.
Prey has cost me more sleep the last few weeks than sunshine
#1 slept on game this year is Prey. I’m serious! And I say that for the love of it, and of you, gentle reader, for it could double its purported PC sales numbers and still be considered a commercial disappointment. It’s gonna be the Alpha Protocol of 2017.
Yooka-Laylee is not good, like John Wick: Chapter 2.
What is “The Point”? Genuine question, since somehow, “sexual harassment exists on a continuum” is apparently the wrong take.
It’s a shame, because I think it’s the best immersive sim since the original Deus Ex. It has a remarkable clarity of purpose, and each of its systems fits seamlessly with the others. There’s also a thoughtfulness to its lore and level design (which complement each other beautifully) that I don’t see in a lot of other…
