This feels like a bit of a reach to me. The underlying apocalyptic motifs are largely overlooked by most people I know who watch the show. Sex, violence, intrigue, clever dialogue and compelling character development are what make it enjoyable, just like every successful piece of fiction in the history of ever.
The idea is that the comments system will eventually improve and be a lot better than the old one; for that to happen, at some point you just have to go with it and figure out what does and doesn't work for people.
