You assume that no one would do any of those things if government didn’t.

Yeah, no. In a world where billionaires and conglomerates can push around small countries, it’s not a good idea to destroy the only thing that could possibly serve as a check on their amoral avarice.
Yeah, whoever wanted a highway system, or roads at all for that matter, or food safety, or schools...
There are plenty of valid criticisms of Jim Acosta and CNN. Do we really need to pile on even more because the guy tried to cut some of the tension among people at a Trump rally? Being able to relate to some Trump supporters on a human level isn’t an implicit endorsement, normalization, or any other show of support…
I brought up the issue of violence, yes, since that is a documented possibility at Trump’s campaign rallies but it’s not comparable to the definite probability of violence if one were to attend an ISIS meeting. It’s just not a good comparison if we are trying to rise above rhetoric.
This is a crowd that does assault reporters. I can’t really blame him for not being antagonistic.
Someone post the video of the MAGA hat-wearing septuagenarian meekly gesturing for LeBron’s sweaty towel.
I’m not sure what we expected him to do here. Journalists, by definition, are supposed to be neutral observers documenting events; they also, according to many fine people, have a reputation as elitists who are out of touch with the common folk. If Acosta refuses autographs, even politely, he is likely branded as too…
I think those of us not weaned on the National Enquirer forget how powerful celebrity seems to those who were. The same personality traits that drew them to Trump like lemmings render them susceptible to any media celebrity.
Whichever boot lessons the possibility that the crowd turns and tramples him to death. This was not the situation for martyrdom.
It’s really not that different from what many people do with celebrities.
I think Acosta got this right...
Mitch McConnell is every name on my Arya Stark list.
Were you abused by punctuation as a child?
When people are dying because they can’t get the health care they need, when kids are locked up in cages and being force-fed antipsychotic drugs, when our water is poisoned, when we betray our foundational principles to pad our bank accounts, f-k your inconvenience.
>Implications of classism
Come on, dude. Even if we accepted your hypothesis, then it’s still a phrase that implies that poor people lose their inherent dignity, and are worthy of condemnation, purely because they engage in the labor customarily reserved for black people. There’s no part of that isn’t pretty darn racist.
Another one of my favorite gestures to hostile fans: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Władysław_Kozakiewicz#Olympic_gold_and_Kozakiewicz’s_gesture
Wow. That’s some heavy shit. I wish I’d known about this before the match. When Shaqiri scored and stripped his jersey off, I thought only of the announcers I’d heard during Stoke matches giving him stick for being a selfish player. This explains a HELL of a lot. Responding to fans who are mocking you with t-shirts of…
