Oh, I’m being serious. That was from a former life, and I loved that science! There’s a lot of my work in the design books used by GE gas turbines, GE aircraft engines, and GE steam turbines. It really is fascinating stuff, and even better when you get instrumented test data back to see how well you did at modeling.

Mmmm, compressor extraction stages. I almost forgot about those sexy and complicated heat transfer modeling challenges. Impingement, turbulent duct flow, laminar duct flow, oh the joys of heat transfer and secondary flows!

Agreed, this appears to be their plan and their action. The problem is that this activity also appears to be illegal. An illegal activity meant to build a legal business sounds an awful like HBO’s “The Wire”, in addition to many criminal enterprises.

I’ve never heard of calling strikes like that before. Definitely an eye opener.

Haha! The mini bikes would be fun. I sold the “r” in Colombia and am back to a Sprint ST 1050 and DRZ400s. Which of those would you ride in Baja?

Was he looking where he was pointing the camera? Enquiring minds want to know.

Yes, yes, and yes! I never had the sense of “this person doesn’t see me and is going to merge into me”, or “dude in the red Ford Taurus at the upcoming intersection is going to run the red light”, before I started riding. I don’t know what all of the signals are all the time, but I feel them and prepare for them. The

Hells yes! Ride what you got! I did a 5,000 mile adventure on a GS150R (dont forget that “R”!) in Colombia. Had a passenger at times, even up to 18,000 feet. Was it up to the task? Meh. Did it do well with two-up? No. Was it capable of going wherever I wanted? Mostly. Did it get 100mpg? Oh hell yeah!

Great comments, and thanks for posting. You are absolutely right about people wanting to do the right thing, but not knowing how. I’m still bothered by how that group reacted, but that just shows we needed to do a better job of explaining rules and safety before the ride left.

It IS about the rider. Do you ride? Have you developed a sixth sense about what every other car on the toad is going to do? Do you notice the small slick patches of tarmac hundreds of meters down the road, or the tire-wear evidence of blind driveways on the main roadway, or the countless other items that are going to

This is starting to sound like “garbage in, garbage out” analysis to me. Just lumping all riders together in one single stat and making a generalized conclusion isn’t a good analysis.

Schererna nailed it. There is a disproportionate number of dangerous and wreckless drivers on motos versus autos, and that type of driving gets you in trouble quickly on motos. Trim that number out of your 8-10x statement, and things will look a lot different.

Debatable. I feel way safer on my motorcycle in San Francisco traffic than I do in my 944. Better sight lines, more plentiful exits, and better performance. Far fewer distractions too. Motorcycles are safe in my opinion, but only for those who pay attention to the road.

Thank you for posting this! We need more rider and crash recovery training, and definitely more stringent driving license tests for automobiles and motorcycles!

Ah yes. It’s loud over there for sure. I was near Van Ness and 24th getting groceries today and was still amazed at the nonstop activity.

Which neighborhood are you in? I used to get that on the little street I lived on in Hayes Valley.

That’s my case too. However, considering how much the chances of suicide increase with gun ownership, even people like us cause undue burden on the state. A highway death supposedly costs a state about $1m per occurrence. A suicide at home is likely different, but there is a financial cost to the state. Plus, the

I own a gun and I’m anti gun. I will support a national gun buyback if one ever happens.

I love that interior, although I’m not wild on the exterior.

This, so much this. Especially since it’s not a common car.
