Regardless of whether or not the halo was necessary for protection in this crash, this incident shows that current car design will allow cockpit intrusion. Pro-halo argument validated.

Yeah! Teach her a lesson!
That’s some wild news about Zoox. I’m curious to see what comes out in the following weeks. It’s not a great sign when a CEO is forced out like that.
I think you meant cornucopia. Point taken though.
Watch John Oliver’s car loan segment.
Did you read the driver’s statement? I’m not saying I totally believe him, but I take statements at face value until they’re proven wrong. He claims he didn’t see the gun until after he got out, which also means that he wouldn’t have heard any commands from the officer that could have ended his life if he didn’t…
I appreciate the variety you’re adding to Jalopnik.
Blanket reply to those commenting on “deadly force”:
I agree. Fuck that guy! BUT, let the track staff do their job too. They ran right over and stopped the whole episode without guns. The officer’s gun wasn’t necessary and only opened the possibility for unnecessary force.
Good point. Race cars never crash outside of demo derbies, and tempers never momentarily flare.
Yes, I am. He stopped driving the car after the incident. Probably realized he was acting like an idiot and stopped the car. The track staff ran over to calm him down and stop the car, which there’s usually a button handy to stop it with. The situation needed to be deescalated, not escalated with a gun.
Why did the officer have to reply with force and walk towards the car? If the driver was really aggressive, then the situation could have escalated with that threat. If the driver just needed to chill out for a second, then he would have, and that’s what happened. The officer should have just let the track staff do…
LOL! I like your comparison on drinking water.
I don’t believe you, and I also don’t believe the paradise you’re making of your Uber and Lyft experiences. Uber and Lyft vehicles are getting shittier by the day.
Uber and Lyft cars are progressively getting shittier in San Francisco, and the rates are going up. Do you really think low fares and nice cars are going to last? It’ll be just like cable TV being replaced by those amazing free services like HULU, or add-free YouTube. It doesn’t last, prices go up, adds proliferate, an…
Bad strategy: “Move fast and break things.”
Thanks for posting this. Def some good watching to do here!
Yes, yes you do!
Get one! :) Or, get a 944. I picked up my 1982 928s Euro for $4800 in pseudo-running condition and a 1989 944S2 for $6000 (needed about $800 in parts including timing belt). They’re surprisingly robust, pretty damned easy to work on (my opinion), and I absolutely love driving them. The 928s is probably worth 4X what I…
It really isn’t bad, and mine sat for 17 years before I got it. The 928 is a super robust machine, and I think a big reason it gets a bad rap for maintenance is because people don’t keep up on their maintenance and go to shops instead of doing it themselves. If you’re handy and confident with cars, then I think it’s a…
