It’s actually pretty easy. Let a 4th line goon ride shotgun on a top line and he’s still a 4th line goon. I think the goals/assists breakdown of that point total is pretty illuminating on that front.

I hate Tom Wilson probably more than you do, but it’s hard to call him a “4th line” goon when his linemates are Kuznetsov and Ovechkin, he averages well over 16 minutes per night, and has 13 points in 18 playoff games. If not a “1st line goon” he’s at least ascended to “top 6 goon.”

Literally has been all playoffs with Wilson. I understand the role of the enforcer but how badly injured does someone have to get before the league says enough is enough?

That Wilson hit, a 4th line goon going after a 1st line player, is the sort of thing any other league in the world would suspend a guy for but somewhere I’m sure Colin Campbell is sold on it being a good thing.

If Detroit ever gets to the playoffs again, I want them to start every home game by making everyone sit through the complete assembly of a 4-door sedan, right there on the ice.
