Yeah, that threw me a bit too, as that description of the series isn’t accurate. As I remember it, books had strong female characters, but (SPOILERS) many in love with the very male protagonist.

That seems to just be something the author of this article said, not a quote or anything like that. It’s wrong, of course - the main protagonists of Wheel of Time are Rand and Egwene, with Rand getting a bit more “screen time” (at least in the first couple books).
