One of the problems with these pokemon are that they don't actually appear as part of your pokedex. So they'll sit in the box, but the game doesn't recognize that you've actually acquired them.
If you're dumb enough to bust the hinges on any 3DS, don't buy one. Ever. My 5 year old has been using mine for over a year and he has managed to keep it in tact.
