I played neither PSU nor PSO1 so I can’t offer a direct comparison to either of them. What I can say is that from a fresh perspective I’ve been having a blast playing PSO2.

It got transliterated as best they could. My last name is Lacey, two sounds that do not appear in Japanese at all. So when I wasn’t just being addressed by my first name all the time, it’d be “rei-shi” which... did take some getting used to.

My last name is composed entirely of sounds that don’t exist in Japanese.

There’s no fuckup here. Japanese and English are two very different languages. Seriously, they’re not close, and pronunciation is going to be one of the biggest hurdles to overcome if you want to be able to speak both languages (reading both is a whole other ball of cats).
