there’s an assumption here that fighting a fire in Europe is the same as fighting one in Norther America. I’m not so sure it is. Our building are taller. More of them are made from wood. I’m guessing that fire fighters here also have to respond to a wider variety of fires - forest fires, grass land fires, fires in

This is a huge problem for people trying to build neighborhoods- Back during the boom in “new urbanism” AKA “let’s build neighborhoods like we used to, where the streets are narrow and the parking is in the back via an alley and the yards are smaller and have big front porches”- and developers kept designing them

As a firefighter for 30 years and these days mostly chauffeur, I can speak with great authority in saying that you have no idea what you are talking about. You read a couple of articles about firefighting in Europe and I guess now you know are a subject matter expert?

Good point about the truck size having a mandated connection to building height.

We got a new fire chief in the city I worked in, and the first thing he did was to buy each station an Expedition that 2 paramedics use as a quick response vehicle, they send the ambulance, too; but it get someone to the scene of the incident faster.

Lol the fire trucks are the problem. You know a city school bus is 35-40 feet too right? Also a standard city bus.  Maybe they are making the roads this way so public transportation can navigate them.  Interesting how the same manufacturers make fire trucks and buses and they are similar lengths.  It seems weird to

A lot of times, the ambulance depot is separate (as they are where I live in NC). Heck, some places are unlucky enough to have ambulance service that’s been privatized.

They usually have ambulances at fire stations that will respond to medical events, not the large fire truck.

I have a number of firefighters in my family, and my father specifically was involved in purchasing trucks for the volunteer department he was captain for.

Hearing its music often enough can contribute to homicidal impulses, but the ice cream truck is killing kids via the long game - setting ‘em up for a life demanding instant gratification, destined for obesity & the diabeetus!

Grand Central in NY has a specialized Fire “Truck” that handles the small stuff very quickly.  I think part of our / US problem is that outside of major cities, the Fire Dept’s are tasked with longer distances to the fire locations and hence need all the equipment on board just in case.

Did you know that some older cities with well-established infrastructure actually custom-order smaller/narrower fire trucks to deal with narrow roads?  And tillers with crew at the rear to steer the rear of an articulating truck?  I find all of this fascinating, and agree that we should be more flexible in the US, but

Yeah! What does a guy who worked in an...auto parts plant know about the automotive industry?! Who does this guy think he is, just waltzing into the UAW...29 years ago?! Surely he only received his position by being appointed by the...direction election of the union members....

Not true, he retired two months before the notification came for his unit. Nevermind, that you don’t usually retire like you quit a job. Paperwork needs to be filed months, if not a year in advance.

My hunch is that the question is moot because they probably wouldn’t allow it to happen in the first place.

What was equally cringe (and also quite amusing) was Vance then confronting the reporters there for Harris/Walz. He made some bitchy statements and then asked if they had any questions for him... there was a deafening silence.

I don’t know. I think he’s more interested in unionizing factories than he is running for political office.

I cannot believe people are falling for his lying a$$ stolen valor crap about Walz when JV Vance is eating the mushroom of draft dodger bone spurs.

You’re asking what a guy who’s been a UAW member for nearly 30 years knows about the auto industry? Seriously? He didn’t step off a bus and immediately get elected UAW president.

The C-32 doesn’t have enough room for the Trump-Vance glam squads.
