It's mostly emotional. But we don't do torture in this society. And somehow making this doofus cop feel pain for the rest of her life is torture.
Gen X here, so my input is prolly irrelevant, but I’ma offer it anyway.
Normally, I’d be all about online grocery delivery / pickup, but it’s closer to gambling than I’d like. Of the three times I’ve tried it, two of those times I had too many of the things I selected be “out of stock” and replaced with something else.…
She deserves to feel pain every day for the rest of her life.
His bigotry, like everything else, was based on dollars. And yes, learned from his father. They didn’t think people with the means to buy or rent high-priced condos and apartments wanted minorities in the building, so racism it was.
Well, I’d say he’s always been a bigot, and he learned it from his father. So, I wouldn’t say he’s never been conservative on ANY social issues. But definitely abortion was never an issue that concerned him at all.
Don’t forget the republicans there are trying to get rid of the liberal judge on the court. They know they are unpopular but they want power at any cost.
“people are starting to think of 15 weeks, that seems to be a number that people are talking about right now”
Right but that was kind of my point, get on the PA tell her to move her car forward, problem solved, or hell when you walk up to the window ask her to pull forward. Seems like there weren’t 2 brain cells to rub together between all the officers.
According to the other articles, the suspect stopped her car after crossing the track and the initial officer stopped her car on the tracks. Other officers with their patrol vehicles were on the scene, but none of the brainiacs saw a problem with putting the suspect in a vehicle on the tracks.
I really doubt that she will ever be “normal” again, even relatively minor injuries can affect you the rest of your life. I have a couple of partial tears in my shoulder and had to give up some hobbies and it impacts daily life even after several attempts at physical therapy. With what she went though I can’t imagine…
That calculus would work, IF you could ensure that she doesn’t get left with any lingering injuries (brain or otherwise) that would allow her to actually spend the $5 million (assuming she even gets that much) on anything other than rehab or treatment just to return to some semblance of “normal”.
Right like she couldn’t have got on the PA and asked the person to pull further forward. Like why on earth would you ever stop on train tracks. But also how on earth would not know a train was coming, do they not have to blow their horn at crossings or something. They are trying to get a no horn zone near our…
Just FYI, you generally don’t pay taxes on settlements like that in the US. So whilst it’s still shitty and I agree “not worth it”, it’d just be the fees from the lawyer, not the tax man. And I agree even at the original $5m, depending on the injuries, that might not be enough for the lifelong care likely required…
Having suffered a TBI almost 20 years ago, I would happily pay $5 million to never have to go through it in the first place. And that’s without the trauma of hearing the train coming and being faced with near certain death.
You quite literally couldn’t pay me enough to willingly roll the dice on traumatic brain injury. Five million, or about three and a half after paying a contingent-fee attorney his third, and maybe two after the tax man, might not cover a lot of lifelong medical care either.
Yareni Rios-Gonzalez is suing for excess of 5 million dollars. I would trade 12 days in hospital for 5 million dollars, or even 1 million dollars.
At least officer Snidely Whiplash won’t have a badge if she decides that another damsel needs to get hit by a train. Unless of course there’s a loophole that lets her back in, in which case she’ll switch to another town and inflict her brilliant risk judgement on another unwitting community.
and suspend her associates to. Nobody thought “hey maybe we shouldn’t leave a squad car on the train tracks”?
