My kids used to beg me to do this when picking them up from daycare when they were little. I only did it twice, because I have now reached the age threshold where it’s deeply unpleasant from a vestibular standpoint.  But they loved it, so it was worth it.  :-)

Nah. Trump’s way too cheap to actually use solid gold. It’s gold plate, at best. More likely gold leaf. Or even just gold-colored paint. He likes his properties to look flashy and glamorous, but he cheaps out everywhere he possibly can.

I still think it’s *amazing* how easily triggered some right wingers are. A brand makes the tiniest, slightest, performative sop to a minority group, changing nothing whatsoever about the brand, in an effort to make more money (a purely capitalistic move, in other words), and they absolutely lose their minds over it.

Plus, switching to the technically-used jets actually meant they had to do rework on a lot of the documentation and requirements paperwork, which actually likely made it cost *more* and take longer than if they’d just kept the original plan of building new jets.

Oh don’t worry, Mr Trump.  I’m sure the deregulation you have in mind will absolutely fix those kinds of problems.

For what it’s worth, the Space Shuttle actually was only hand-flown for the last minute (if that) of the flight, and the only control the computer has no access to is the landing gear lever. I am absolutely serious.  There is no particular reason for this design other than astronaut wishes.

The best one, unfortunately, was destroyed. That was the most complete example, which made almost one complete revolution of the Earth in the sole, uncrewed spaceflight of the program. It was assembled astride an Energia super-rocket for a second, orbital flight, which would have visited the Mir space station and…

I worked a couple of summers as a customer service rep at a company that did mobile home financing (at 30-year terms!) to subprime borrowers, and subsequently went bankrupt in a huge scandal involving paybacks between the CEO and the board.

It was permanent DST that got tried.  Permanent standard time was used for the entirety of human history before the introduction of DST and worked out just fine.

Well, everybody’s gotta work for somebody, and jobs aren’t always easy to come by. I’m not gonna blame them for taking the job.  By all accounts, it’s horrible to work for Tesla, so if they took the job and kept it, there likely weren’t a lot of other options available at the time.

DCMA is the Defense Contract Management Agency. I should clarify that they’re not auditing the Pentagon and the DoD itself, so they don’t actually do *all* of the auditing. (Maybe they should!)  They audit the contractors, and manage foreign military sales.

I can move to Arizona, sure. (And so could you; at a lower latitude, you’ll have less impact from the changing daylight to annoy you at midsummer and midwinter.) But that won’t do a thing about the pointless loss of productivity for the rest of the country, which is what really bothers me.

Don’t forget also the DCMA, which does all the auditing and so forth for the DoD. I know a guy who used to work for them. (Family friend; great guy, very diligent; very sharp.  He’ll spot errors, for sure!)

Driving in the daylight and driving in the dark aren’t the problem for me.  It’s driving at sundown and sunup that are the problem -- especially when that damn daystar is right in that spot right between the dash and the sun visor where it’s impossible to block.
