SF bay area. The 510 has FI and I have a power commander and the self tuning kit in a box, but I’ve been lazy about installing it. The XRR I’ve been having issues dialing in the new carb, as I’ve never messed with a pumper carb before. It seems to run great at idle or under power, but the transition has to be super…
I put heat shielding over all my lines, it seems to help. Also all my radiator hoses. Maybe replace the lines when you buy a 40 year old car with questionable maintenance history.
I’ve heard the same thing about the 510, and it seems to be a reliable bike other than the water pump and they all leak oil. I’ve met people with relatively high miles and do oil changes every 2k miles, but when I do ride mine I ride it pretty hard. Lots of wheelies and I’ve ripped the kick stand off a couple times…
Or you could, oh I don’t know, wear proper riding gear? There are options like textile over-suits that you can just take off like a jacket when you get somewhere. As for people unwilling to wear proper gear, that’s what Darwin awards are for. They are only hurting themselves, so I tend to just ignore it. People on…
I always ask for the Altima when I get a rental car, as it is by far the nicest, best driving car in its rental pricing tier. If the price was low enough, I’d consider one as a commuter too.
Needs more V-Due! Still one of my dream bikes, and supposedly someone figured out a fix (replacement) for the bad FI.
Interesting about the piston, as my SMR 510 is supposed to have similar maintenance and replacement as the 450, though I’ve met people with a lot of miles who have never done anything but oil and adjust valves. Changing the oil every 2 rides is a big part of why I don’t ride it more often. The motor is very similar in…
If they want to make it really applicable to developing street cars, they should have robotic dogs and children that pop out at random as obstacles, and randomly change up the conditions with artificial potholes and hosing down random spots during the race.
Racing has always been about the danger. Without drivers, that…
The XR650R is a great street bike, if you don’t mind kick starts. I did a 400 mile, high speed (mostly 60-105 mph, which is in the red zone in top gear with my gearing) road trip on mine in 90-110 degree weatther which started 1,200 miles after the previous oil change and when I changed the oil at the end it almost…
I have stock caliper and big rotor/spacer/pads on my other XRR, which works pretty good and I’ve never lacked for stopping power. The Beringer just has amazing feel and modulation, that’s the main benefit. I wouldn’t have put one on an XRR nor the forged wheels or the ridiculously expensive full exhaust (but he kept…
If you do touring on your supermoto, then there is a lot of sitting involved getting between the peg dragging spots. 100 mph standing on the pegs gets tedius.
You left off “axle tramp” which seems to be a pretty common term with the Mustang drag racing crowd.
If you want the best brake ever, get yourself one of these. The previous owner put it and the forged wheels on, neither one of which is cheap, but it is the best brake I’ve ever had on any vehicle and everyone who has ridden it says the same thing. This is on an XRR. The modulation and feel are otherworldly. I may put…
I was about to type something angry when I read a criticism of carbed dirt bikes, but then I remembered I have 3 carbs for my XRR and one dumps the gas out at idle, one has a broken choke, and the third I have been tuning the pump for months and haven’t gotten it right...the FI on my Husky is good, but it isn’t as…
The data on the Mig is inaccurate. Or should I say, over simplified. Your analysis is technically true on most modern cars, but there is more to it.
That’s a pretty damn convenient statement for him to be making. *Cali dons his tinfoil hat, and climbs up on the soap box*
Congratulations! You deserve the full time gig, as you are really doing good with the site. I especially like how there have been articles about lots of types of bikes, as we are all one big community. As I learned when my pieced together 900RR blowed up on the side of the road and a Harley guy stopped and helped me…
I believe he actually says the “linkage” is all twisted, not the transmission. As CobraJoe said, the linkage is on the outside and he could instantly see that it was mangled. He monkeyfisted it into 4th, bending the linkage further. Cole popped the clutch then slipped it enough to keep the motor on boil and not stall.…
Conserving fuel, tires, keeping the heat under control. You can only go all-out for so long, so they were saving it for the last second pass.
