It isn’t saying SM64 ‘is special for using triangles’, it’s saying ‘the game world is made up of triangles, this is important for the rest of the video so you first need to know this’.

I guess he’s not saying that SM64 is special because of it, he’s just saying that’s how it works in SM64. Maybe the audience didn’t know that, and this knowledge is important for understanding his video.
