Lupus can basically destroy any organ in your body. It is extremely varied in presentation, and sufferers are at increased risk of other autoimmune diseases. Immunosuppressive treatments are also not fun. Kidney failure in your 20s is really really rotten luck.

It’s really nuts that people have three kidneys after transplants. But I’ve been told the bum one usually is still working a tiny bit so why not keep it.
My mom’s boyfriend donated a kidney to his cousin a few years ago, and that’s how I learned that they just stick the new kidney in there and don’t remove the recipient’s busted kidneys.
