Are we forgetting that Jürgen got a pass last week? He underperformed Lizzie in every challenge but somehow he gets into the semifinal round?

The technical round has always been a bit of a head scratcher for me. A poor technical has never been enough to send home an otherwise strong contender, and a great showing never truly evens the score. It only seems to count if it confirms something about the rest of somebody’s performance.

I was going to feel bad about whoever went home! This season has had the biggest number of bakers I liked in the tent, I think.

I felt for you when Lizzie got eliminated, Allison. She did great this week. It should have been Mr. Floor-pastry Jurgen leaving this week, but Paul clearly couldn’t even conceive of it.

I will miss Lizzie deeply but that was an impressive cake on which to make an exit, the colors and construction were splendiferous and gigante! I can’t believe he 5s rule’d it. That was completely disgusting. They should have judged the look and that’s it. I can’t believe the producers allowed that.

Yeah, anyone that’s worked in a decent kitchen knows there’s no 5 second rule. Food on floor goes in bin. Jurgen had been walking in the space where the food fell so the floor wasn’t clean. Him still being allowed to plate up was just wrong.

I would definitely have sent Jurgen home, the fact that he’s done well so far shouldn’t matter,  this was easily his worst week. And his first two bakes were worse than Lizze’s,  even if they really liked his showstopper.

I know it’s the format of the website, but it’s always very strange to me that these episodes get individual letter grades, and many of them are strangely harsh. What exactly is being graded? The contestants’ performance?
