My parents both drive early/mid-2000s Buicks. My dad has an 05 Rendezvous and my mom has an 03 Regal GS.
Are you a wizard?
This is awesome. Super timely, too. I’ve been meaning to fix the actuator on my Miata for months now.
Buy my 944! I promise it’ll be at least as reliable as a 90's muscle car.
Yo, my dogg, check it. Get one of the many custom CSS extensions for your web browser of choice, then add this line for Jalopnik and any other not-Gawker website:
Definitely fuel injected. Maybe you’re referring to the throttle bodies?
I was driving through the city, with tall buildings all around. I consider myself a very observant, defensive driver, but I didn’t see it coming until the very last split second.
Hard to overstate how much this sucks. Back in June, I was t-boned by a red light runner in (surprise, surprise) a Prius C. She hit the passenger side of my car, where my wife was sitting. My wife still has neck pain to this day and my WRX was totaled.
Maybe you missed the “$25,000 budget” part.
Tercel badges are the best. My buddy drove a Tercel for several years, and every Christmas I’d get him a new badge. Pretty soon, he had the only AMG 4x4 Tercel GT-R RS Blackhawk in town.
Man, that sounds awesome. I live in WA (King County) and our sales tax is brutal. Last time I bought a car, the taxes and fees added up to over 10% of the car’s value. Taxes make or break a frequent buy/sell lifestyle.
That’s not the only form of recruiting shenanigans these guys have pulled. I watched their boat float by my window a couple months ago. At least they’re thinking outside the box.
I did, and I ended up replacing the clutch myself, too. I was in college at the time and couldn’t afford to have a shop to the work. Definitely a “learn by doing” experience, and I’m better for it now.
Unfortunately, that fails the upkeep test. Unless you’re willing to do your own wrenching, it’s still going to cost a lot to maintain. I was quoted $2500 for a clutch replacement and $800 for a windshield wiper motor (!) and mine’s not even a turbo.
Fastenating.
I wish I was making it up, but I really didn’t know what was going on. I was an inexperienced kid just focusing on making it home on icy roads. Never overestimate the situational awareness of a teenager.
Plus the cost of gas, insurance, tires, and maintenance. They could’ve easily had 9 1/2 years of much better truck for that money. Paying off your car twice in the span of two years for major repairs sucks, even if it lasts for a while after that.
No joke, about half way through this I forgot I was still reading Jalopnik. Switched tabs for a minute, then starting wondering where my Petrolicious tab went. Well done.
Bummer. I missed this one. That’s what I get for not reading Jalopnik on weekends. I’ve made my share of bad car decisions, but none as bad as my parents’ repeated decisions to hold on to an old pickup.
