Body cams should be turned on wirelessly by dispatch as soon as the officer confirms that they are responding to a situation.

THIS is why I’ve stopped calling police when there are disturbances in my neighborhood. I live in a neighborhood north of Seattle and every once in a while we get squatters in the carports or car prowlers. I called about a vehicle break-in and the officer arrived, screeching to a halt in my driveway. He jumped out of

True story - I was in a therapy group and one of the women said her brother, who has mental health issues, pulled a knife (but wasn’t threatening to harm her - he was just waving it around and yelling). She didn’t call 911 because she didn’t want him to be killed. So she was left to herself to try and calm him down

Thank you, police in America are trained well to do what they do. That just happens to be protecting corporations, shooting citizens, and protecting themselves.

Cannot give this enough stars.

There’s statements coming up here about the poor training of American police, and this is something that needs to be addressed: most police officers receive very good training, but the problem is that it’s tactically heavy training.

30 years ago there was a shooting in my neighborhood. (next door in fact). The SWAT team arrived. As I walked out the front door, a dozen guns turned and trained on me and I was ordered to “get down motherfucker.” I was on the ground for 20 minutes with a gun pointed at my head from 30 feet away.

By Lululemon.

about 6 months ago, my security system went off at 4 am. my husband was traveling, so it was just me and my dog (who didn’t even wake up as the alarm was blaring). i was rattled, sowhen the security company called and asked if i was okay or wanted the police to be called, i opted for them to call the police. it seemed

“Mumble mumble something about budgets...”

On...Jezebel?

I have an idea. Hear me out. What if we collectively, as a society, stop hiring stupid fucking cowards as cops?

I took an uber ride once with a young driver who wanted to become a cop just so he would have a gun. He was really excited at the thought of being armed. It was frightening because he kept talking about it and how cool it would be to have a gun and it seemed like that was all he knew about being a police officer.

i think it’s definitely going to get more media coverage, and result in more conversations about retraining police, than we have seen before, because this is a white yoga teacher. and it’s also going to produce some wildly fascinating comments among the Flagrant Racists

Yup, that’s the story so far. I’m really waiting to hear the tale they come up with that somehow makes her the aggressor.

Or my favorite: “See black people? White people get shot and killed too, so let’s not bother doing anything about police accountability ever.”

Fuck every cop in America. I hate all of them because they are trigger happy, incompetent assholes. Oh and I say this every time a cop shoots a person no matter their race. I live in Chicago where this happens to Black folks far too often. I’m so sick of all of this.

Was she wearing a hoodie?

There should be no conditional bullshit to turning on squad car or body cameras . When you are on patrol, they need to always fucking be on. This is just so fucking insane.

Wait, so she was talking to the officer in the driver’s seat, and the officer in the passenger’s seat saw fit to shoot her THROUGH THE DOOR (i.e. he/she had to fire a shot basically AT their partner)?
