Memo to Jill Stein voters : Ditto.
I don’t get into a lot of their music but I really love this video:
I’ve seen this happen to too many friends and acquaintances before DOMA was overturned and gay marriage became federally protected. Uninvolved, hateful families coming out of the woodwork to wrest inheritances away from widowed spouses.
Can someone explain why they weren’t considered to be common law? Does that not exist in New York/not exist for gay people?
Thank you. That all went down 10 years from this past Cinco de Mayo (kinda ruined the holiday for me for all eternity.)
My husband rushed in (I was only 22 at the time, newly married, though we’d been dating since middle school...which yes, I realize sounds obnoxious and LDS-like, but we’re very normal and I just happened to have found my exact “opposite” dynamic that has always meshed really well for both of us? But I digress....) so…
This is a seriously well-written comment. They’ve been together through some seriously tough shit.
Were you one of the people who heard (before this article) of Keeping Up With the Joneses?
Timeline!
Seriously, death brings out the money-grubbing greediest in people. My uncle and mother never really got along, but they kept the peace out of respect for my father and we’re WASPS so thin-lipped passive aggressiveness and air kisses are what we do.
I’d be willing to give the nieces and nephews the benefit of the doubt, but when one of them says “perhaps the two men were just ‘friends’ or ‘great companions,’” it shows that they’re just assholes who didn’t really care about the well being (or even humanity) of their uncle. I hope the common law marriage angle…
See, no need for special protections for disadvantaged groups. Everything’s fine people. Nothing to see here, please just move along.
Ms. DeMaio suggested that perhaps the two men were just “friends” or “great companions.”

Even if they were just friends (they weren’t) who kicks out an elderly person who’s lived in the place for 55 years?! I don’t give a shit if you just bought the building and you’ve got every right to do so - just don’t. Hard hearted terrible people.
It’s 50+ years old, but this quote still fits as directed toward the nieces and nephews
Things like this just reaffirm my general disdain for most of humanity.
Yup, I feel confident in saying that they’re the type of people who didn’t give a shit about this man in his life, but are happy to prey on his assets like vultures now that he’s dead.
If the relatives win there needs to be an organized effort to egg this house every day.
I know people like the nieces and nephews. Trust me they do not give a shit. They think he’s old going to die soon and they deserve to be rich while while young enough to enjoy it.
