I deal with that with my family a lot, too. My mom and ex (who I still live with, long story) both constantly comment on their own weight, on my weight (I'm not trying to lose weight in any way), and even on the weight of my pets, who are both healthy and within normal weight ranges, according to their vet. I just

My dad is like that too. He has a FEAR of being fat (I think in his experience, he associates it with age and dying) so it's his number one insult. Are you a lawyer that annoys him at work? THAT GUY IS FAT. Are you bad a driver? YOU'RE STUFFING YOUR FAT FACE. I'm a thicker gal but super healthy. I don't think he sees

Sometimes you just can't win. I'm overweight by probably 15, maybe 20lbs. Enough to create muffin tops and knock my bra size up a notch, but that's really it. At least once during every family function I will have one relative who mentions that maybe I should be more active, "like my sister"......and then turn around

What I find most interesting about this is how different people relate to the myth that every parent loves their child. Some people are willing to confront that myth as a myth. And some people can't. Reality always has to be negotiated based on the premise that their parent loved them.

I think you missed the memo a few centuries ago that said discrimination doesn't have to be conscious.

The only salary-related self-inflicted wound I've ever suffered is when I got fired for asking why a man who had half as much experience and knowledge as I did got hired at an hourly rate that was greater than mine after I'd been working there a year.

No. Much like the patriarchy in general, no on is saying there are secret meetings or some conspiracy.

No, it doesn't have to be a widespread conspiracy, it could be a commonly held discriminatory belief. Like, Idunno, sexism. Like the studies that consistently show that employers view salary negotiations more favorably coming from men than women.

This can't be a serious question. We already do legislate pay. We also legislate workplace discrimination. Welcome to America.

So MacCallum makes...zero dollars?

I remember that Peterbilt ad campaign, but it was from the late 70s/early 80s, not the 60s. The tag line was "Class, Never Outdated". I had full page magazine ad from it thumb tacked to my bedroom wall in the late 70s.

This article gives a lot of bad advice.

to me, this was the best and most pertinent point:

I'm going to be that person- she looks like she just caught a whiff of his backdoor breeze.

Go on....

Being 5'2" attracts a lot of men who think I look 15-years-old. Mmmmmmvomit.
