Your logic is that all the “fans” want the old school turn based game which is not true at all. There are a lot of people, myself included that do not miss it. Name one JRPG that still uses the old turn based system and is wildly successful.

We couldn’t fit a dissertation on the dangers of capitalism and poverty traps created by rich tech bros in a 5 minute show room demo. But I can assure you that our game about deregulation, corporate greed, and immorality in the tech world is going to engage with more than just a passing “Uber drivers sure are bad?”…
An independent developer called Desk Lamp says it has spent over two years working on a game called Rape Day.
Coming soon: BattleFront of the Old Republic: Story by DICE, gameplay by BioWare!
I just want to clarify that on this very same podcast, former BioWare boss Aaryn Flynn told us that it was his decision to switch to Frostbite for DA: Inquisition: https://kotaku.com/former-bioware-studio-head-talks-about-life-under-ea-1823969303
I’m sick of this freaking myth. Activision has not had direct oversight power over Blizzard over a long stretch of time, and even when they did well over a decade ago, Bobby was very clear that while he thought Blizzard moved slowly, that it was hands-off.
Steam has had a couple decades to make it’s features. And as others have said, PC gamers cry consumer choice and Monopolies are bad. Untill Steam is challenged. The gamers review bomb a game. Which is why reviews by steam users is a cesspool. And cloud saving isnt that hard to implement. But sure, let’s put the cart…
It seems like the shitty move is mobilizing consumers to try to enforce a near monopoly on digital sales, even though the 30% commission is usurious at best.
That’s just for 3 months. $3.4b for one quarter would fit with a $11b+ overall year spend.
I read someone say Monopoly was great and immediately skipped the rest of the article.
Brandon Sanderson agrees with you. At least if CDPR makes it.
You know, I just bought this for $9, and, unpopular opinion, I know, but I enjoy playing it.
For what it’s worth, I would love to read your thoughts on why the AAA market is unsustainable.
TL;DR Jason doesn’t want Kotaku to become the Fox news of videogame coverage. That is a laudable goal, imho.
Your request for Jason to add pressure is silly... CNN isn’t making signs for a Trump protest. They cover the protest.
I actually think the entire AAA video game industry is unsustainable, but that’s a conversation for another time. Regardless, when I talk about stoking controversy, I’m not talking about reasonable criticism (or even angry criticism) over, say, a game releasing in a state that can most assuredly be called pay-to-win,…
I don’t think Schreier is your guy on this point. He’s typically a good journalist, but he’s taken a confoundingly insider-ish perspective on the outrage surrounding lootboxes and more contemporary methods of post-retail revenue generation. You’re trying to reason with someone who believes the right answer lies at…
the loot boxes were never not in game.. even during the beta they were there.. the microtransaction to buy them on the other hand, thats been totally removed. you can’t buy them with cash. only via achievements or in game credit. Of which are plentiful.
I know it’s fun to get REALLY ANGRY about video games every week, but there’s nothing to talk about until we actually know what the new system looks like, whether it still feels pay-to-win, and how unfair it feels.
I was there from the very beginning, and digital has always been priced the same as retail, and the reasoning is exactly the same now as it is then. Contracts with brick and mortar stores stopped publishers from charging different prices. It might have been different for indie stuff but hey, it still is different for…
