I am not normally a yell at the TV type of person, but I yelled, "WHAT?! WHHHHYYYYY??" at the Matt killing.  I was very surprised, not only by the hallucination, but also by my reaction. Had they done this the same time last season, I don't think I would have cared.

This is how I am looking at it. I am not a fan of them shoehorning this new werewolf lady in there - no matter who plays her. HOWEVER, by doing this, there is the promise of some Klaus/Caroline action, and I can get behind that 100%.

Get out of my head!!! I agree with everything you pointed out.  The motorcycle scene was especially terrible. It felt a bit lazy for this show. I get that they want to show Elena taking risks and enjoying her new-found vampire abilities, but find a less cliché way to do it, please.  I kept waiting for her to slip off…

I thought so too, which is why I didn't like it quite as much as some episodes from last season.  I still thought it had some great moments, but this episode wasn't quite A material for me.
