Great article. Thank you. I appreciate you reviewing the history of the treaty and its importance then and now.

And as much as it pains me to say this, in this case the insurance company might be right with their aggressive depreciation. You’re not gonna get top dollar for an exotic that’s been rented out.

Yup. I used to work in the insurance industry myself, and most of this story is standard fare. The back and forth is normal while the adjuster does their...adjusting. It sounds like the owner was hoping for a large payout so they could wash their loan. People placing too much monetary value on their property is

Basically free with the condition that people get to rally the shit out it.

Who in the F in their right mind would rent out their super car? Incredible.

Wouldn’t a simple fix to this, be for the PC Bangs to block users without admin rights from installing stuff on the comps?

But no-one else in the vid is riding this way. What don’t they understand?

Seems to take a lot of risks, but this is anticipation. There was traffic oncoming preventing the van from acting on its left turn signal. Similarly with the bus: the gap was going to stay sufficiently wide even with oncoming cars. Those early turns, all the traffic was flowing, and he made himself part of the flow.

NASCAR races are too long. There are too many laps, too many cautions, and the overall time to run a race is just too much. So rather than shorten them, they divide them up in to segments (likely adding more time and delay to the process) and award points in a bizarre and confusing matter (likely further alienating

I’ll find a sport with more simple rules and scoring, like cricket

Excellent idea. We’ll get right on that.

I like to keep a set of these in the truck, just in case.

That was *your* Grand Am at every intersection in a snowstorm in Denver in 2003? My Subaru and I hate you. :)

Just watching this make my back ache. Want to see him steer though

Maybe the product needs an upgrade on materials or something, but wouldn’t this be an ideal solution to the tire chains thing if it was durable enough, and if they snipped off the foot-long ends so they’re not having fucking accidental chariot battles on the middle of the freeyway?

Completely different. You get a speeding ticket for breaking a rule so paying in pennies is being an ass for being caught breaking a rule. In this case, he bought a car, with the full intention of paying for it and enjoying it, and was completely screwed over by the manufacturer. What rule did he break?

It won’t affect the dealers much at all. Dealers may have to house the cars for a short time, while VW figures out where to put them all, but the dealers have no skin in this game. Dealers are simply a location to help facilitate the buyback process.

IF my tdi wasn’t a lease, I’d do the same thing. Patiently waiting for the update to see if VW pushes back on this. Word on the R/tdi subreddit is that VW was getting wise to this and telling reps not to accept.

I admire his commitment to being a recalcitrant ass.
