There are people that may be morally opposed to (mega) city migration, morally required to stay (to be familial caretaker, etc.), or otherwise unable to leave. Your anecdote is nice, but doesn’t address the concern... it’s possible…

It’s not denial, it’s dehumanization. By saying that Americans unanimously supported, the implication is that non-supporters are un-American. This is similar to the Cruz victory speech, where “good Texans won out”, implying that non-supporters are not good Texans.
