I would argue that the founding fathers did consider the possibility of a President pardoning himself in creating Article III, allowing the judiciary to decide the validity of such pardons.
I would argue that the founding fathers did consider the possibility of a President pardoning himself in creating Article III, allowing the judiciary to decide the validity of such pardons.
I mean, it’s kind of true. It’s possible that a court could admit the acceptance of a pardon as evidence of guilt if they felt it was directly relevant to the case and otherwise constituted admissible evidence. It’s also possible that a court could refuse to allow a pardoned case to be considered as evidence. I…
The founding fathers, even before the Constitutional Convention, discussed pardons extensively. Pardons are one of the few powers that is not directly checked in the Constitution, and I think it is wrong to assert that the founding fathers didn’t account for the possibility that a President could abuse his pardon…
Per the US Constitution, treason consists only of participating in an armed rebellion against the United States or aiding or fighting in the ranks of a foreign power or group that we are at war with. Two witnesses to the treason must testify in open court.
If you don’t want to pay those exorbitant NRA safety fees or you have an objection to their politics, you’re local Marine or Army recruiter can discuss the wide variety of options for you to receive free firearms-safety training.
I mean, some Democrats are still falsely claiming that the 2000 election was “stolen” by the Supreme Court with a few even believing that the 2004 election was as well. But, as far as I know, none of them were elected officials. And that’s a very important distinction.
If Biden is still in good health, I think he would consider a second term. Incumbents usually have a huge advantage. Look at how Obama and Bush won reelection fairly decisively in 2004 and 2012, despite their unpopularity.
Ranked choice voting is also how Oakland got a terrible mayor that nobody remembers voting for. I’m not sold on it, to be honest.
It will be interesting to see if the Republicans return back to someone relatively mainstream and normal, like Paul Ryan, or if they double-down on crazy. The Republicans could have had John Kasich and they went with Donald Trump. As far as I know, Bob Dole was the only Republican President or general election…
If Trump doesn’t run in 2024 expect to see Ivanka and Don Jr. duking it out for the Republican nomination.
Although even this is misleading. An uparmored Humvee or Five Ton truck isn’t technically a weapon, but Ukraine can put weapons on the turret. They can load it up with ammo or fresh troops to bring to combat. They can use it to tow a cannon. The Obama administration did supply Ukraine with military equipment, just not…
Go ahead on share it.
Trump didn’t do a very good job of articulating what he was talking about to people who haven’t been following foreign policy and foreign affairs since the second Obama administration.
The problem with that plan is that it’s incredibly unpopular (one might say undemocratic in that regard) and it breaks the seal on that behavior, so the next time the Republicans control the Congress and the Presidency, they’ll add four justices or more to make up for the two justices Democrats added.
I’m going to file this one under exemplar of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
Again, please read the Constitution, both of the United States and the Constitutional and electoral laws of the 50 states. The state legislature picks and certifies the electors (and they can change how this is done at any time so long as it doesn’t violate their own state laws) and, should congress not count 270…
Um, you might want to read the Constitution. November is the date of the federal general election; however it is not the date of voting for the actual electoral votes, which are the only votes mentioned in the Constitution. Every state votes on a different day in either late November or early December.
If Trump loses in November and starts acting completely crazy, what do the Republicans have to lose by keeping him in power? If he’s actually dangerous, there might be a chance to remove him, because they’ll see the age of Trumpism as ended.
This just isn’t right. The founding fathers discussed extensively how the electoral college could act as a bulwark against the unwashed masses electing a demagogue. They spoke very little about how it protected “small states,” which really didn’t exist in the same sense that they do today.
I mean, the electoral college was meant to prevent something like Trump from happening, back in the 1700s, when electors were not bound to the popular vote and when there were no real political parties.
