I mean, yeah, that’s why the impeachment process has only been used two times in the history of the United States, because overturning an election is a very serious thing for the congress to consider. But congress is given that power by the constitution because someone needs the power to overturn the result of the

I’m not constitutional scholar, but it seems to me that the constitution gives the Congress pretty much unconstrained oversight power related to impeachment. There may be specific instances where a witness does not have to cooperate because of executive privilege or another constitutionally valid reason, but there is

Clinton was impeached on two counts. One was perjury (lying under oath). Another was obstruction of justice (basically trying to cover up his misdeeds by engaging in witness tampering and other abuses of his office).

The article is old, but the data on the impeachment poll chart is updated daily.

Criminal contempt of congress can result in a $100K fine (imposed by the courts, not by congress).

True, but you could make the same argument about Clinton. He abused his position as President to engage in sex with a subordinate. It’s not on the same level as what Trump admitted to doing, and obviously the Republicans cannot argue that it was a personal matter with Trump, but they can argue that Trump was genuinely

Congress absolutely has the authority. They have the same authority as a judge to order criminal or civil penalties for people held in contempt of congress. They can be thrown in jail, fined, or forcibly dragged onto the House or Senate floor and held in chains to answer congresses questions.

It looks like almost a 10% increase since the Ukraine scandal broke. 43% of Independents support impeachment and only 15% of Republicans do. That’s probably a safe number for the President. Right now, the best thing he could do is probably shut up, let his defenders do the talking, and dare the House to impeach him.

I think that Pelosi should start fining them. The courts may eventually reject the fines, but most of them are not rich enough to be unconcerned about having a huge financial sword of Damocles hanging over their heads for months or years.

The argument they seem to have decided on is that the President asking Ukraine to investigate Biden was not okay, but it did not rise to the level of an impeachable offense. It is not that dissimilar to what the Democrats did with Clinton (it was wrong, but it was a personal matter and therefore not an impeachable

You might get Romney, Collins, and maybe 2-3 other Republicans to vote to convict Trump at this point (and even that is doubtful). There are nowhere near the 20 Republican Senators onboard with this that would be needed.

Also, there were a lot more conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans back in Nixon’s day. Politicians were not clearly divided down the middle like they are now.

According to 538, the weighted median is currently at 48% in favor, 43% opposed, so it certainly has taken a dramatic rise in the past two weeks, but not a clear majority at this point.

They’re not starting from scratch. They already have the website. I’m certainly no expert on it, but I’m guessing that they already have the staff to implement the changes. They just need someone who has expertise in this sort of thing to figure out what needs to be changed. It may be simple things like having parts

All the major desktop operating systems and browsers already provide many assistive technologies for visually impaired users. Also, to the best of my understanding, companies that manufacture operating systems and browsers cannot be sued under the ADA as the software in and of itself is not a public accomodation as

How much does a web developer that specializes in designing websites for people with disabilities cost? $120K? $200K? That is probably cheaper than fighting this lawsuit, plus no bad publicity.

Eventually, we may be forced to make a decisive choice between the Kurds and Turkey, but for now . . . .

It is okay to trust him; he knows better than the Generals. How do I know? Because he told us so during the campaign. Duh!

It has nothing to do with nuclear power or how these countries treat their people. It has to do with global hegemony. Right now, there are two real powers in East Asia: China and the US. If the US pulls its troops out of places like Japan and Korea, guess who gets to use their military and economic might to bully our

It is quite the opposite. We were helping them. Now we are not. Like the Kurdish uprising against Saddam Hussein that the US supported after the Gulf War and then failed to follow through on.
