Some places require that employee shifts be scheduled in advance, but they usually make exceptions for people who volunteer to pick up shifts. As a part time employee, you could be scheduled for only a few hours of work a month and then pick up shifts ad hoc.

Truckers also are not driving around the city unpaid hoping that someone in the area will call them to take a load. If they’re truly independent contractors, they also can negotiate their own contract and perform the service however they want. There is nobody looking over their shoulder and rating them. They either

By the same token you could argue that people aren’t forced to work any job, so they should have no labor protections if they decide to work.

There is a test to decide whether someone is an employee and a contractor, and a “minimum take rate” isn’t part of the test. Contractors generally have the ability to independently negotiate the price of their service and decide how and where to provide it. They generally are allowed to do so without any interference

Because we have labor laws in this country? I mean, that is kind of like asking if you worked in a coal mine as a five year old and feel that you are a better man for it, why shouldn’t other people’s kids be allowed to work in a coal mine?

Not only that, but a big reason that they are able to outcompete cab companies now that their funding has dried up is because they have half their workforce “waiting” for a ride for free.

Um, that’s not what minimum wage is. Minimum wage is intended to set a minimum standard of compensation for all employees, whether they are working at their primary place of employment or picking up a “side gig”. Uber and Lyft have been arguing that they don’t have to pay minimum wage because their drivers are not

There is nothing stopping Taco Bell from setting up their employment model that way. Some places require that shifts be scheduled in advance, but most make exceptions for people who volunteer for shifts.

Air BnB is a bit different though, because it’s hard to argue that Ar BnB hosts are employees. They’re more like franchises. Delivering food or commercial transportation are basically normal jobs worked by regular employees.

When it started, Uber basically just decided that because you hailed a cab with an app instead of a radio dispatcher, and because the cabs and the drivers were completely unlicensed to provide commercial cab service, that the rules about commercial ride-hailing that had been hashed out over 100+ years shouldn’t apply

Not even sure what to make of the fact that the last lion in Europe died over 1000 years ago.

I don’t think it would because his parents were US citizens. But if his parents were immigrants who joined the military shortly after they immigrated and were stationed overseas after their training, it could have impacted them.

Yeah, some Republicans tried to sue to get McCain declared unqualified to serve as President, but the courts ruled in his favor and said he was a citizen by birth.

Unless they say bad things about him, like John McCain, then fuck them! They’re not heroes!

It was pretty clear that he did not support the troops the moment he mocked a decorated POW for being captured by the NVA.

Sure, but it means it is not credible. And credibly-vetting sources is what separates credible journalism from hacks.

Yeah, people keep talking about Trump needing to be physically dragged from the White House, which is silly. In the unlikely event he doesn’t leave on his own accord, who cares? What is he going to do, wander around the halls aimlessly while the new President and his staff move in?

The Constitution is pretty explicit that this is not how it works. The courts would probably only decide something like how popular votes get counted, like they did in Florida in 2000. But at the end of the day, the popular vote means nothing. It is the electoral vote that matters. There is nothing that forces an

Absolutely, and at the end of the day, who do you want in charge of the military? Someone who is extremely competent and respected by those who serve underneath him or Secretary of Defense Donald Trump Jr?

I forgot about Reince Priebus, who was a Republican political operative who was presumably pretty good at being a Republican political operative. I’m not sure whether or not he would have made a good Chief of Staff for a more traditional Republican, but it didn’t matter because regardless of how good he was at his
