How long has it been since you were in the Philly area? My r5 trains were every half hour at least during rush hour & ran pretty late coming back from the city at night. Only ever had slight delays in snow or bad rainstorms.

It’s such a shame because I love regional rail - I’ve always had great experiences with conductors & lived on a line with frequent service. One trip I ended up sitting in an officially closed car with septa mechanics and had a great conversation about the old/new trains, how they work with limited resources... I’m

The problem is the subway only has 2 lines, one east/west, one north/south. Gaps get filled in by an extensive bus network, but biking will get you places quicker than the bus.

Why are you going “down” Arch Street, Ellie? That street goes east/west, so you may want to double check you’re going in the right direction. (When you’re in center city, almost all the north/south streets are numbered, except Broad because why not?)

That stuck out to me too - in theory, new recruits should be much cheaper than the officers who left.

I get similarly icked out by people who link creativity with drug addiction. “Heroin has created some great music.” How much great music will we never hear from people who suffered from drug addiction? How much much of their efforts to put together great music during their lifetimes was impeded by drug use?

A witness who doesn’t show up in court to testify can be jailed for contempt of court, yes. You can’t just decide not to go if the court has ordered you to. Using jail time as a punishment/deterrent is useful for a variety of cases... Was it wise to jail this woman? Ha, no. Was it legal? Absolutely.

That was the stance my lawyer friend took when I talked to him about it (he’s worked on protection from abuse cases). Basically his take was, sure, carefully berate the woman for the consequences of her not showing up, especially if there’s a pattern to her case that makes you suspect she did it for custody... but

Well of course - just like how if you’re attracted to men, you would totally have sex with any man, you know, in the right circumstances. That’s why you can’t let gay men into locker rooms with straight men. It’s just too dangerous.

People who care about fashion. That he admitted in two of those stories that he didn’t even remember bare details of what his subjects wore - including the very-careful-with-her-style Madonna makes me wonder if Vogue told him “hey, you forgot to write about what they wore,” & that’s the best he came up with. That he

I have the same problem with Sienna Miller, who is an amalgam of all generic blonde actresses

That sounds like a boatload of trouble - certain religions require a funeral within a week of passing, so they could easily get in legal hot water for religious accommodations

I think a lot of times the idea is that they can build a community in places like Idaho and support each other. NYC is a lot more... more. Where they can get swallowed up. And sometimes, for whatever reason, there are immigrants or refugees that predate them in these places. Like Somalians in Michigan, I think (sorry

The Tonys love older actors - ingenues might win for musicals, but in plays, always bet on someone with the gravitas of age and a career of work behind them.

Meanwhile some of my favorite music “by” male musicians is because they have amazing female vocalists on the track. “Gimme Shelter” is not transcendant because of Milk Jagger’s “raw talent.”

1- loving the use of jawn. Keep up the good work.

I had the same problem - they never sounded like they really knew what they were talking about and were Wikipedia surfing. Backstory with the History Guys is by history professors who know their stuff and I highly recommend - they choose general topics like time, guns, etc and talk about different ways they play into

Hawaii has a pretty large Mormon population, and a fair number of military bases. Overall it can be pretty liberal compared to other states, but it’s not all hippies on the beach.

Philly pride! Recently finally moved into the city from the inner suburbs and it is a fantastic place to be right now. I’m going to be driving through the rest of the state later this weekend and am dreading the moment I see my first confederate flag of the day and despair for the November election.

I got my work to pay for me to go to the PA women’s leadership conference once, & Eddie was there to introduce keynote speaker Hillary and apparently was one of the people behind the conference’s founding. I have good feminist feels about the guy, founded in logic or not. So I’m interpreting his statement as thinking
