I really don’t see much room for commentary on women’s success here, though, accidental or otherwise. It’s more about how social media and presenting an idealized image of our lives has become so all-consuming.

This is not a baby step. It’s propaganda, it’s a mirage. Saudi will still be Saudi, funneling cocaine and meth money to ISIS, handing school children textbooks that depict Jews as rabid Pigs, beheading Indonesian maids for practicing “witchcraft”and walking the streets bashing women for the audacity to show ankle or a…
Disliking popular things doesn’t make you more interesting.
Found the hipster.
If you’re not eating something because you don’t like it, then you’re absolutely not who she’s getting at in this article. Chill out, she wasn’t getting a dig at you.
I don’t think I’ve ever been so angry listening to a podcast than while listening to A Not-So-Simple Majority, which came out September last year.
TAL is the radio show that set the standard for every podcast we enjoy today. Engaging writing, excellent editing, topical, and—contrary to what the haters say—diverse, long before “diversity” was a thing anybody talked about much.
Yeah, or what about Radio Lab which is essentially TAL on PCP?
Ben Calhoun’s A Not-So-Simple Majority is one of the darkest ones I remember - truly upsetting and depressing, and also really well done. http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives…
Nothing like a scathing, totally unsupported criticism to boost ones own self-esteem without the hassle of communication or critical thinking. That rush lost its appeal for me when I turned 14, but your milage may vary.
This is one of the saddest things ever
I’m surprised “Not-So-Simple Majority” didn’t get mentioned. It might be the craziest story they’ve ever done.
Denton sold them to Vice.com to help pay for the Hulk Hogan lawsuit.
I don’t see Owlrich “shaming porn actors”. She is just saying that “pornography relies on the degradation of women and normalizes painful and humiliating sexual acts.” which is absolutely true. It is not the female porn actor’s fault or shame. They must feed themselves. It is the porn industry in general, which hurts…
Well, this was obvious. As the great American poet Jax Taylor once said “I have milk with a longer shelf life than that marriage.”
The same poster also berated another survivor who said she found consent play cathartic for not “seeing a therapist to reclaim your mind and your sexuality.” I don’t often read comments on Jez that genuinely shock and horrify me, but that did the trick.
I never want to be the person to say that they aren’t surprised, but...
Not true. Men are not a rape bomb waiting to go off. No way. Absolutely not. Absolutely men are worthy of trust. Absolutely teach your sons about consent. Absolutely teach your daughters and sons about the difference between rape and consent. Totally disagree with this comment.
Hey settle down, hotshot. I understand a lot of young women have this fear, and as a 45 year old, who hasn’t seen this kind of thing lessen but increase, I say a hearty STFU dude to you. Seriously, take a fucking seat and slap yourself for trying to make this person feel bad about a fairly common and appropriate fear.…
It’s naive not to think every man is a rapist? What?
