wow thats seriously fucked up..then again in my family we usually over produce the food on thanksgiving and everyone is doing a friends giving the next day so if we host we are trying to sneak leftovers into relatives cars before they leave...too damn much turkey.

Don’t try and force it on the cousins if there are more kids. My wife’s family does the gift list, they tried to force it on the cousins. & siblings each with 2-6 kids most of them have never met the other cousins...that was far far too much generation baggage to try and pass on.

Easy solution. Christmas dinner too expensive/too much work then don’t host . not that fucking hard.

The flip side of this is small cities need to do whatever they can to bring in industry. Most small cities are 1-2 company towns..that’s not tenable. I have lived in a city of 150k that lost its major employer, the fallout isn’t pretty.
