you’re kinda selfish, aren’t you

Reduction of industrial and electricity-production emissions is a critical element in the equation. More important — for sure — than a dramatic effort to reduce how much we drive.

could we machine learn our way into better zoning?

I’ve been railing against the “No I won’t” *stamps foot* type arguments against the article in this comments section. Thank you for putting something out there about why it’s hard or unlikely, and also for adding what else might be done.

Now playing

This is why we need to ban the cars. Because people don’t take kindly to volunteering for a slightly worse thing.

A slightly higher gas tax, an actual carbon tax, and the sale by the city of some existing streets that are no longer needed, opening up the opportunity for denser development (making it more possible to live closer to work, maybe?).

additionally, the way a rural person lives in the US has a much larger carbon footprint than a city dweller. factoring in food and transportation etc. not sure about airplane trips, though.

Advocating for replacement of cars with better transportation is myopic? Advocating for better city design is myopic? Advocating for making it possible for people to live close enough to bike to work is myopic? How the fuck is it myopic?

We decided to create policy to limit coal-fired power plants, and now we don’t build many anymore. This reduces quite a lot of carbon emissions.

you understand that if we didn’t need so many roads, we’d save an enormous amount of space in urban areas, leaving more room for housing development, right?

what doesn’t work about building small towns in a way that favors walking-distance to all things? why is that nonsense?

this isn’t true and hasn’t been for a very long time. decades.

real life gifs, this is awesome.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PENTIUMS, WHAT

are you sure you’re not surrounded by assholes? always the first question to ask.

I’m about as introverted as they come, and I’ve always managed to convince the group that I’m in to go the way I want.

yeah, songza.com is still the only way to get this service in Canada. not rolled into Play Music here.
