It’s an editorial mistake—the one who’s 8 now is the second-youngest, not the second-oldest. Chip’s comments make (somewhat) more sense in that context (though still not much).

it’s fine not to refrigerate it. We all get so nervous about stuff like that. It can grow mold, but that takes time. And even so, the mold that typically grows on maple syrup isn’t toxic. You probably won’t want to, but you could skim it off and still eat the syrup. It won’t taste as good though.

Yeah, it basically seems like she went from one bad situation to another to another. This doesn’t make Mia Farrow sound very good, but it certainly doesn’t make Woody Allen sound any better for it.
