I’ve seen more than a few people quibble with the idea that Strong’s behavior (as well as the behavior of other notoriously intense actors like Daniel Day-Lewis) aren’t really what method acting is about. I think it can be as simple as, like, if you’re going to play a cop, going on ride alongs with cops. But others

I’m arguing that “erasure” of the words “women” and “woman” is not happening, as evidenced by the fact that the two organizations highlighted as having done this in the op-ed arguing against this supposed phenomenon routinely use those terms in talking about those issues. I’m also arguing that the terms you’re

Ummm…I have too, both of the examples I pointed to did use that exact, more inclusive, more accurate language. 14 year old cis girls get pregnant, so abortion is not only a women’s issue, women eventually stop having periods, so issues affecting periods don’t affect all women, etc.). They also commonly used the less

Yes, they are. Words specific to women, like “women” and “woman” are not being erased. One of the examples Pamela Paul used in her idiotic op-ed about this was the Lancet’s coverage of menstrual issues, which included the phrase “bodies with vaginas.” But the actual article uses the word “women” throughout

You are talking about a made up phenomenon. Even outlets and orgnanizations that attempt to use more inclusive language (which isn’t just for the benefit of trans people….a 14 year old who gets pregnant is also not a “pregnant woman”) use the term “women” and “woman” all the time.  The pieces that came out around the

Pompous: Caring about how people might reflect on your life and actions.

Strong just sounds like a really weird, intense coworker, the type that isn’t doing anything “wrong,” but he just acts in a way that is often very annoying to his coworkers. He’s one of those people you’re always having to “put up with.” What annoyed me, a little bit, about that profile, was this idea that he was

You don’t get to be a billionaire by being a decent or reasonable person. Paraphrasing the beginning of a bit I heard a comedian do on, IIRC, Warren Buffett: “I mean, we can all agree billionaires are pyschopaths. Because a billionaire is someone who at some point had $750 million, and was just sitting there like

Here’s the thing: maybe seeing depictions of same sex affection, or hearing about non-binary people or men who are pregnant or women who have penises or someone who doesn’t call themselves a man or a woman, or whatever, strikes you as weird, makes you uncomfortable, or otherwise you just can’t understand it. I can get

“You know, a wonderful creative idea like backing several dump trucks full of money onto my mansion’s front yard.”

I do not want to ignore any cases of anything.  Me acknowledging that people do sometimes get falsely accused of rape is the opposite of ignoring it.  Still, if you don’t rape people, you will almost certainly avoid getting accused of raping anyone!  That’s the advice I’d give to anyone concerned about getting accused

Have you been falsely accused of rape? I don’t personally know any men who have been falsely accused of rape. It does happen, I’m aware of that, but actual rape happens way more often than rape (I do, unfortunately, know women who were raped). The primary protection against getting accused of rape is still not raping

Do you do this? Do you have a cache of videos of women on your phone saying “Yes, I consent, to sexual activity with you” or, creepier, “That sex we just had was consensual”? And do you think that makes you look LESS like a creep? Why would a women who was going to make a false rape allegation (for…reasons) and who

i know how did you get to be such a moron wtf?

fuck off

Thanks, I think I already get why they do it, it is so they make sure they get away with whatever they do, consensual or not. If that is your only insight, thanks.

I’m aware of what happened in the article. Shitty things sometimes work. If it doesn’t prove consent, it doesn’t prove consent, I’m not sure what else the argument is about this thing that purports to prove consent but actually doesn’t. It works because people think it shows something it doesn’t.

If it doesn’t prove consent….I’m not sure what else there is to argue about

First, you should not wait until after you have sex with someone before getting consent. And, do you get video consent from every person you have sex with creep?

ok
