Huh, was I the only one who noticed the audio issues at the beginning of the show? It sounded like Kenan’s microphone wasn’t on for his first lines. Or maybe it was a Global TV (Canada) issue?

Yeah, the one in particular was very out-of-place. Especially given that there was none in the first episode (did they even say “shit” in the first episode?)
It was such an interesting/weird environment to show in Star Trek. For that matter, the galaxy news broadcast was kind of odd too. And had the cheesiest opening graphics even by today’s standards.
I thought this episode was great, and had a kind of manic energy I haven’t seen on SNL in quite a while. Maybe the holiday time off was a good break to get some refreshing new/crazy ideas.
Eddie was good, but as someone who has only been watching SNL the past ~15 years, a lot of the nostalgia was lost on me. I thought Black Jeopardy was absolutely terrible and one-note in particular. Same with Masked Singer. If you’re going to bring back 30-year old characters you have to pick and choose and modernize.
I always find the shows with former SNL cast members hosting to be lousy. And this one was no exception. Awkward humor is great if done right, but that monologue did not feel like it was done right. Will Ferrell is pretty hit or miss, and this was mostly miss.
I can’t agree with this grade. To me this was the worst episode of the season by far. “That’s the Game” was fantastic - Chris Redd was great and the timing was bang-on. I loved Kyle in WU, and Newsboys had a great premise but... like most sketches, the timing was just slightly off and the audience was so quiet for so…
Mikey Day is really good at pulling off the right incredulous expressions and intonations required for that sketch to properly take off. Though perhaps loud British yelling is funny in almost any circumstance.
Wait... “several years”?
SNL needs to take a break from politics. Just about EVERY joke they used in the cold opening has been already done ad nauseum on Twitter for basically the whole preceeding week. The political landscape is moving way too fast and has been for a while, for a show that doesn’t air until Saturday to think it can get some…
Sorry Crank Yankers, but dunkey has you beat.
You are tearing me apart, black hole!
This was... not great. Is it OK to say it wasn’t as cheesy as it should have been? Some of the best moments were some of the worst lines, but there wasn’t ENOUGH bad dialogue.
Man, at least The Jungle Book remake was almost 50 years after the original. This 25 years after remake of something that still looks FANTASTIC is nonsense. Plus... Will Smith can’t sing. I regret listening to his take on Arabian Nights. Way too much autotune. Sigh.
Geez - I was expecting better for a season finale. Really bad live direction, confusing timing of jokes that threw the audience off in a lot of sketches. Oh well.
I liked this episode. Perhaps one of the stronger ones of the season and this is coming from someone who thought almost all of the Adam Sandler episode was meh (except for the Italy tours bit, that was wonderful!)
I’m no Leslie fan but... that was good.
When I saw the scene of Tony washing dishes, all I could think to myself was “Who washes dishes in the dark where you can’t even see if they’re clean? DING!”
I thought so too, but actually, it’s how the original was (mis-)spelled.
DS9 firmly established a Star Trek type of offshoot - still clearly in the same universe with a clear chain of command, but not set on a ship, lots of non-federation crew members - and then worked from there. Hell, even Picard was in the first episode to give it a send off and help establish Sisko’s traits right off…
