In my part of the world, the progressive Midwest of the US, we use something similar, though we use permanent markers on the ballot. After the ballot is completed, I take it and feed it into a machine that seems to verify that it’s a proper ballot, and, I would think, tally the vote.  I don’t get a receipt though…

Finer point: Hillary was made to be uninspiring. The right wing media, both organized and unorganized, did an excellent job tarnishing her reputation. They have been attacking her for decades. Heck, they are still terrified and intimated by her and continue to attack her.
