Canada’s been ahead of the US in vehicle lighting before. DRLs were mandatory in Canada (1990) long before they will be required in the US.

Canada did not take the lead on this. There are multiple countries where this has been mandated ages ago.

No I don’t remember headlights being so bright even 10 years ago. Sure the occasional dude forgot to turn off their brights, but now its just the default car setting, or their just adjusted too high.

The last several cars/vans I’ve had have all had an “Auto” mode for headlights. And that’s where I set them, and never touch them again. They turn on and off when needed. The only time it gets messed with is the annual safety inspection when I have to remember to flip it back to auto because the inspection station

Seriously, is it because I’m in my 30s now or have headlights gone fucking insane?

Meanwhile in America:

My 2005 Jag has a warning that says “Headlights Are Off” whenever it’s dark and the switch isn’t set to auto. I’ve never seen that in any other car I’ve driven.
