First thing I do when picking up a rental car is clean everything with Clorox bleach wipes or with hand sanitizer and paper towels. You won't believe how much filth is in a rental car. 

I will suggest trying Azuna, it's supposed to kill all odors and mold in your car. house, boat closet. etc.. Maybe also put a couple open bowls of baking soda?
