You are right. Joe Paterno was told by McQueary that Sandusky was doing something sexual with a child. Joe admitted this twice. Child + Adult + ANYTHING SEXUAL=Call cops. Instead, Joe passed the buck to his errand boy AD and then participates in the decision NOT to report Sandusky. This is not success with honor.

One of the most shameful aspects of this is that Gladwell discussed the story with and praised infamous Sandusky truther John Ziegler (previously known for being eviscerated in a David Foster Wallace profile during his attempt to build a career in conservative talk radio).

It’s really something how Paterno’s defenders spent his entire life lionizing the man for his dedication to academics and education, only to portray him as an ignorant, profoundly out-of-touch geezer the minute that became necessary to pretend he didn’t understand the concept of male-male sexual assault.

You’d never hear one of these CHUDs erase a player’s behavior as: “He’s just a football player, he only thinks football, he doesn’t know how to not break his son’s arm.” But because they’re emotionally invested in the mythology of “great coach = great man”, they do that shit all the time.
