Don’t worry- I am not implying that you, Stewbacca, secretly want to drive a Camry. But you are straying dangerously close to “methinks he doth protest too much” territory :).

The opinions of others. If you spend too much time listening to what others KNOW a car has to have, you end up just getting things you don’t really want.
You may just need to try active cruise on another car- it’s super smooth on my subaru. Also I can turn off the lane departure warnings and lane departure.
That’s a big deal for Hertz. Really big. Mega even. It’s a MegaHertz deal.
They owe Demolition Man royalties on this. Though to be fair the car they used was a GM prototype.
I have tried like 3 times to describe how much this level of excess makes me feel and so far I’ve come up with a range from “I think I’ll be happy when the eventual workers rebellion happens and puts our entitled ruling class up against a wall,” to “It’s like looking at weird european porn where everything just seems…
Yeah, she’s powerless. But what she symbolizes to a LOT of people is pretty awful. She symbolized the theft of lands and treasures, the wholesale looting of cultures, the exploitation of so many people who, because they weren’t English, didn’t count as human. You can be powerless and still be a symbol of oppression.
If she’d shot him and claimed stand your ground she could have... no, wait, that law only works for white men.
A few minutes later, a couple of dudes on four-stroke dirtbikes went tearing by, braaaping exhausts echoing off the birch trees and absolutely shattering the calm. Moments like that can make even the most ardent internal combustion fans realize that maybe it’s time for a change.
I’ll take it one step further and say this: You know how we always complain about how Europe has all these cool as hell little cars we never get here in the US because “they just won’t sell in America?”
oh definitely.
After years as a retro-grouch who didn’t want none of them danged safety nannies on mah car and manual transmissions only thankyouverymuch...
And it turns out that CVTs are not terrible. They work. You don’t really notice them.
I am still utterly unable to wrap my head around a 7k rooftop tent.
The problem is, we keep looking at electric cars as just extensions of what we already have, so, since we already have super fancy hypercars, what happens if you just replace the drivetrain with electric?
I think the problem is, that as long as you are a reasonably competent automaker, making a $2.2 million dollar hypercar really isn’t hard- You have access to the best of everything and so it’s going to be a stunning-to-look-at jaw-dropping-to-drive piece of art. Just like all the other 2.2 million dollar rolling…
As a child of a blue collar family in the 70s, I can say that the love for these trucks is extremely misplaced. Were they good work vehicles? Sure. Were they good all around family vehicles? not even a little. They were loud, uncomfortable and they got horrible gas mileage. Trucks in general are terrible cars. They…
Dan Savage of all people pointed out one of the biggest benefits of expanded public transit for city governments- it allows you to tell people who complain about traffic to shut up and take public transit.
It’s a good start. It’d be great if we could also get state and local governments to factor in planning for public transit for new neighborhoods and start looking at ways to require that new neighborhoods be walkable for basics like groceries and school. Basically, start requiring that we build neighborhoods for…
