As, ostensibly, an older millennial, I can tell you that it is entirely a reaction to boomers blaming millennials for the world’s problems. For, essentially, asking for what they took for granted.

That is a very good point, I’m probably a millenial, but born early enough to remember life before the internet and I can recognize how much it’s changed things in my lifetime.  My appreciation for cars is something I came to later on but frankly it’s probably seen as an affectation by people younger than me.
