In the defense of the Sesame Street people, Kermit and Miss Piggy are from a very different show, despite the fact that both shows have muppets. Grover, Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar, etc are not shown as having sexuality either.

My guess would be that they’re well aware of how touchy white people get when ~white savior~ characters are identified as such, so/and they’d rather devote their energy to the more straightforward issue of focusing on marginalized perspectives. The White Savior in this story was glorified for her in-universe decision…
